Petrobras Reports Hydrocarbons on Sagitário Appraisal

During October, Petrobras reported the presence of hydrocarbons at well 3-BRSA-1388DA-SPS, located in block S-M-623 (Sagitário prospect), Santos basin. This is the second appraisal and third well drilled on this asset, all of which had HC shows.

Drilling activities have been ongoing since June 15th, conducted by Foresea’s Norbe IX, which currently remains on-site. A first report was made on October 5th and a second one yesterday, October 30th.

The first (wildcat) well, 1-BRSA-1063-SPS, was drilled in 2012. After that, the first appraisal – 3-BRSA-1370-SPS – was concluded in early 2020. However, despite also confirming hydrocarbons, it had a negative impact on the project.

The permo-porous characteristics identified in 1-BRSA-1063-SPS were expected to extend to the entire Upper Sag interval. However, well 3-BRSA-1370-SPS showed a decrease in porosity and permeability, caused by precipitation of carbonate cement. This ended up affecting the volumetric evaluation of the discovery.

Due to this reason, Petrobras requested more time for exploration and evaluation activities in the block. This second appraisal should help further assess the reservoir extent and elaborate a possible development plan, which must be submitted by March 2024.
