๐—•๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜‚โ€™๐˜€ ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐˜ ๐—ผ๐—ถ๐—น ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜€ ๐—ผ๐—ณ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น๐˜† been announced, marking an important step in Brazilโ€™s pre-salt development. Operated by ๐—˜๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ผ๐—ฟ in partnership with ๐—˜๐˜…๐˜…๐—ผ๐—ป๐— ๐—ผ๐—ฏ๐—ถ๐—น and ๐—š๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ฝ, Bacalhau holds an estimated 1 billion barrels of recoverable reserves. It is ๐—˜๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ผ๐—ฟโ€™s largest offshore project outside Norway and the first pre-salt field in Brazil to be entirely developed by an international operator. The milestone also marks ๐—˜๐˜…๐˜…๐—ผ๐—ป๐— ๐—ผ๐—ฏ๐—ถ๐—นโ€™s first upstream production in the country.

The FPSO Bacalhau, built by ๐— ๐—ข๐——๐—˜๐—–, is one of the largest FPSOs to ever operate in Brazil, capable of producing up to 220,000 barrels of oil per day.

Previously known as Carcarรก, this area was discovered by ๐—ฃ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ฏ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜€ in 2012, located in a block acquired all the way back in 2000. Appraisal wells were subsequently drilled in 2013 and 2015. ๐—˜๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ผ๐—ฟ came into the picture in 2016, by acquiring ๐—ฃ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ฏ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜€โ€™ operatorship for USD 2.5 billion, later securing the northern portion of the discovery in a production-sharing bid in 2017. Two additional appraisals were drilled to test the northern portion, and the entire area was declared commercial in late 2019.

According to ๐—˜๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ผ๐—ฟ, the company plans to invest USD 25 billion in the field by 2030, reflecting the start of the 30-year production life cycle.
