On October 20, ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ received final approval to drill an exploration well in the Foz do Amazonas Basin, part of ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐นโ๐ ๐๐พ๐๐ฎ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฎ๐น ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ด๐ถ๐ป. The wildcat well, named ๐ ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฝ๐ต๐ผ, is located in block ๐๐ญ๐-๐ -๐ฌ๐ฑ๐ต, about 175 kilometers off the coast of Amapรก, in deep waters.
Drilling operations are being conducted by the drillship ODN II, which arrived on site in late August and had been awaiting the operating license. According to ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐โ president, the company expects drilling activities to take about five months to complete.
The original licensing process dates back to 2014, when the block was operated by ๐ฏ๐ฝ in partnership with ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐. The initial environmental license application covered several contingent wells in addition to Morpho โ including Manga, Maracujรก, Marolo, and Mangaba.
After acquiring ๐ฏ๐ฝโs stake in 2021, ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ became the sole operator of the block and has since worked to meet all of ๐๐๐๐ ๐โs environmental requirements. One of the final conditions was a Pre-Operational Assessment (APO), concluded in August.
While ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ has obtained a drilling permit only for Morpho, their initial request included three additional contingent wells, and the company is expected to push for these permits as soon as possible.
