Over 2023, not many companies made a move into the onshore exploration area in Brazil. Through all the up-to-date data available on Geopost, we made a brief summary of these activities.
Eneva stands out for being the most active in exploration, drilling a total of twelve exploration wells across its assets. Other companies which have also made their efforts are BGM with three wells in Espírito Santo basin, PetroRecôncavo with one well in Potiguar basin and Imetame with one well in Recôncavo basin.
Amazonas Basin
A total of six appraisal wells were drilled in blocks AM-T-85 and AM-T-84, both acquired by Eneva in the 2nd Cycle of Open Acreage under Concession regime (2020). Five of them to better evaluate the Silves discovery, and one in Anebá – all with hydrocarbon shows reported to ANP.
Parnaíba Basin
Three wells were drilled in Lagoa dos Rodrigues, located on block PN-T-66 from the 1st Cycle of Open Acreage under Concession regime (2019). The first one had gas indications and the other two the results are not yet published. Two wildcats were drilled on PN-T-102A, both with gas shows, and a third wildcat was spudded earlier December on PN-T-134.
Potiguar Basin
PetroRecôncavo drilled an appraisal well in the Sabiá Laranjeira discovery, located in the block POT-T-702, acquired in the 2nd Cycle of Open Acreage under Concession regime. No oil or gas indications were reported to ANP.
Recôncavo Basin
Imetame drilled one wildcat with hydrocarbon shows on block REC-T-99, acquired in the 13th Bid Round (2015).
Espírito Santo Basin
BGM, in a consortium with Campo Petróleo, drilled 2 wildcats in ES-T-506 block, acquired from Cowan in 2021. Both wells, drilled in the Surucucu discovery, had oil indications reported to ANP. BGM also had oil shows further north, in ES-T-345 block.
2023 has also seen two new onshore fields, Águia Real (Capixaba Energia) and Muriqui (BGM and Campo Petróleo), both in Espírito Santo, as well as 143 blocks which received bids on the latest open acreage cycle. What can we expect for 2024?
