Australian company Karoon has just announced earlier today their commitment to drill at least one extension well to better evaluate the commerciality of Neon, a light oil discovery drilled in 2015. Depending on the results, another subsequent well may be drilled. Neon has 2C contingent resources of 55 MMbbl.

According to the company, this exploration effort shall be carried after their activities on Baúna, which include a series of workovers as well as a development campaign for Patola, another reservoir inside the same field with 2C contingent resources of 13.2 MMbbl. If all goes well, Karoon expects an output of 30,000 bbl/day on Baúna by 2023.

All of the tasks above will be caried out by semi-sub Maersk Developer, which is set to arrive in Rio de Janeiro in approximately 2 weeks. There, it will go through usual legal procedures with Brazilian authorities and then finally head towards Baúna.
