On Sunday, the drilling rig West Saturn – that arrived in Rio de Janeiro a little less than 2 months ago – set sail towards Campos ultradeep waters and right now is stationary on what it is likely to be the area for the drilling of the Opal prospect, on the block C-M-789. This marks the beginning of Exxonmobil’s new drilling campaign in Brazil, on the asset owned in partnership with Petrobras and Qatar Petroleum.
At the moment it also seems that the drilling coordinates are slightly different from previous Ibama licensing documentation. This well should be around 45 km away from the dry well on Saturno (1SHEL33RJS, drilled on May 2020) and around 95 km away from the Naru prospect (1BRSA1376DRJS, drilled on June 2020) which had HC shows. Both targets aimed to better comprehend pre-salt opportunities on the south portion of Campos.
