The transfer of operatorship between Petrobras and Karoon Brasil on the Baúna field is expected to happen in the next few months. The negotiations started back in 2016.
The asset was acquired in 2019 by Karoon, other companies as PetroRio also showed interest in the area by the time.
During its peak, Baúna produced over 70,000 bbl/day and lately has been producing around 16,000 bbl/day. However, the prospect of Patola – discovered in 2011 – could increase the field production by 10,000 bbl/day.
It is also worth mentioning that Baúna is surrounded by recently added Open Acreage blocks, which could also contribute to an increase in the region’s E&P activities.
In the past, the open acreage blocks were explored by Petrobras and companies such as Brasoil, Ecopetrol, Enauta, Galp, and ONGC. The area is 80% covered by 3D surveys and has several exploration wells, apart from one, all targeting post salt plays.
