Last week, Perenco announced the acquisition of 100% of Cherne and Bagre fields for US$10 million. Situated in the shallow waters of the Campos Basin, these fields were discovered by Petrobras in the 1970s and had been producing since the early 1980s.

In early 2020, both areas were put on hibernation due to the COVID pandemic and have been non-operational ever since. According to a news release from Perenco, they plan to start a redevelopment of the assets in 2025, with an expected production goal of 10,000 to 15,000 bpd of potentially over 50 million barrels of reserves. As part of this strategy, the Anglo-French company plans to construct a new pipeline connecting to the Pargo field further north, acquired at the end of 2018 alongside Carapeba and Vermelho fields.
