After nearly 25 years without drilling activity in the ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐น๐ผ๐๐ฎ๐ ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ป, ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ initiated the licensing process in early April to drill up to three wells in its southern portion. This represents a significant milestone for exploration in the basin and would mark the first well since ๐ญ-๐๐ฅ๐ฆ๐-๐ฒ๐ญ-๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ฆ was drilled in early 2001.
These will also be the first ultra deep-water wells ever drilled in Pelotas, located in the blocks acquired by the state-owned company in the 4th Cycle of the Open Acreage Concession. Specifically, the activity is focused on blocks ๐ฃ-๐ -๐ญ๐ฒ๐ณ๐ฒ and ๐ฃ-๐ -๐ญ๐ด๐ฐ๐ฌ, where ๐ฆ๐ต๐ฒ๐น๐น is a partner, and on block ๐ฃ-๐ -๐ญ๐ณ๐ฏ๐ณ, which also includes ๐๐ก๐ข๐ข๐ in the consortium.
The Pelotas Basin is gaining more interest as one of Brazilโs new frontiers, leading to increased investment in the region. This interest stems from the geological correlation between Brazilโs offshore sedimentary basins and Namibiaโs Orange basin, which may have had similar development processes following the breakup of the Gondwana supercontinent.
