After nearly 25 years without drilling activity in the ๐—ฃ๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฎ๐˜€ ๐—ฏ๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ป, ๐—ฃ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ฏ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜€ initiated the licensing process in early April to drill up to three wells in its southern portion. This represents a significant milestone for exploration in the basin and would mark the first well since ๐Ÿญ-๐—•๐—ฅ๐—ฆ๐—”-๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿญ-๐—ฅ๐—ฆ๐—ฆ was drilled in early 2001.

These will also be the first ultra deep-water wells ever drilled in Pelotas, located in the blocks acquired by the state-owned company in the 4th Cycle of the Open Acreage Concession. Specifically, the activity is focused on blocks ๐—ฃ-๐— -๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿณ๐Ÿฒ and ๐—ฃ-๐— -๐Ÿญ๐Ÿด๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฌ, where ๐—ฆ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—น๐—น is a partner, and on block ๐—ฃ-๐— -๐Ÿญ๐Ÿณ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿณ, which also includes ๐—–๐—ก๐—ข๐—ข๐—– in the consortium.

The Pelotas Basin is gaining more interest as one of Brazilโ€™s new frontiers, leading to increased investment in the region. This interest stems from the geological correlation between Brazilโ€™s offshore sedimentary basins and Namibiaโ€™s Orange basin, which may have had similar development processes following the breakup of the Gondwana supercontinent.
