Yesterday, April 9th, Petrobras announced the discovery of hydrocarbons in ultra-deep waters in the Potiguar Basin. The oil was found in Albian turbiditic reservoirs, intersected by the Anhangá wildcat (1-BRSA-1390-RNS), located in block POT-M-762. Petrobras holds 100% working interest in the asset.
In addition to Anhangá, the state-owned company previously announced, on January, another discovery on the basin: Pitu Oeste (3-BRSA-1389-RNS), located in block BM-POT-17, south of POT-M-762. Both discoveries need further analysis to determine the economic feasibility of the area; However, this is a significant step for oil and gas exploration in the region, particularly considering the exploratory success in Guyana and Suriname, and the challenges faced in the Foz do Amazonas basin.
